В XIX — начале XX в. в Санкт-Петербургском университете скандинавскую филологию понимали как изучение древнеисландских литературных памятников, большей частью в связи с историей России, преподавания живых языков не было. Преподавать первый скандинавский язык — шведский — и вообще активно изучать скандинавские языки стали впервые в 1935 г., норвежское отделение было открыто в 1945 г., датское — в 1947 г. Огромный вклад в научное изучение различных аспектов скандинавистики внесла научная и организационная деятельность профессора М. И. Стеблин-Каменского, опубликовавшего многочисленные работы по скандинавскому языкознанию, а также по средневековой литературе и мифологии. Именно он в 1958 г. стал инициатором создания в ЛГУ первой в стране кафедры скандинавской филологии, которой он руководил 30 лет. Основателем шведского языкознания стала С. С. Маслова-Лашанская, автор важнейших работ. В. П. Берков создал целую библиотеку своими работами по норвежскому языку, в том числе словарями. Он признан одним из крупнейших мировых лексикографов, специалистом по двуязычным словарям. Работавшие на кафедре в разные годы скандинависты внесли весомый вклад в науку. В 1972 г. было впервые открыто голландское/нидерландское отделение, которое за короткое время проявило большой научный потенциал. Профессор И. М. Михайлова, заведующая кафедрой скандинавской и нидерландской филологии, является автором многочисленных публикаций в области нидерландской лингвистики и литературоведения

Мотив пути — одна из основных доминант в творчестве видных поэтов Финляндии ХХ в. как финнов, так и шведов. Понимание жизни как дороги роднит поэзию Эйно Лейно, Ууно Кайласа, Пааво Хаавикко, Ристо Ахти, Хели Лааксонен, Эдит Сёдергран, Эльмера Диктониуса, Ральфа Нурдгрена и др. Их позиция совпадает с творческими концепциями Александра Блока, с идеями паломничества в европейской литературе. Поэзия Финляндии ХХ в. встраивается в общеевропейскую линию, но в финской поэзии мотив пути существовал еще начиная с эпических песен. Причем у путешественников цели были разные — от высоких, священных, до приземленных, бытовых. В начале ХХ в. финские неоромантики, интересуясь историей национальной культуры, совершали частые путешествия в финскую и русскую Карелию. Начиная с 1920-х гг. поэты обращаются к образу пути как к «святой дороге призвания» (Ууно Кайлас), с которой певец не имеет права свернуть. В послевоенной поэзии движение по кругу, «туда-сюда» (Ристо Ахти) в любом случае означает движение вперед. Главное, не сесть на мель, не налететь на стену. Доминанта пути оказывается тесно сплетенной с доминантой образа дома, мотив пути — с образом времени, с жизненным циклом, биографией. Путь реальный, географический, биографичный и духовный сливаются в один, и на этом пути высокое сплетается с низким и даже низменным, макрокосм с микрокосмом. В современной финской поэзии тема пути зазвучала по-новому с разнообразными нюансами, которые порой не сочетаются друг с другом, но она по-прежнему остается актуальной и, можно сказать, основной.

В статье рассматривается раннее творчество выдающегося шведского поэта Финляндии, представителя модернизма Эдит Сёдергран, которая родилась и училась в Санкт-Петербурге. В профессиональной деятельности Сёдергран писала на шведском языке и печаталась в Гельсингфорсе, но ее первые стихи созданы на нескольких языках: немецком, шведском, французском и русском — в гимназический период, в 1907–1909 гг., и при жизни напечатаны не были. На примере семи стихотворений из записной книжки гимназического периода — «Коленкоровой тетради», написанных на немецком, французском и шведском языках, показано использование различных поэтических приемов, образность поэтической речи и тонкий лиризм. Стихотворения в предлагаемой подборке написаны в разных системах стихосложения. Высказывается предположение, что часть стихотворений носит тренировочный характер, связанный с программой гимназии. Несмотря на неоднородность первых стихотворных опытов, в них отчетливо проявляется способность Сёдергран передавать яркость и объемность изображений, рисовать в стихах выразительные динамичные картины, давать им эмоциональную окрашенность. Это убедительно подтверждают стихи, посвященные ее родному городу — Санкт-Петербургу, который способствовал развитию художественного вкуса Сёдергран, а также примеры на шведском языке, который дал свободу ее поэтическому слогу

This article discusses the function of the murder motif in M. C. Hansen’s prose. It shows that this motif is strongly related to the author’s quest for novel ways to represent reality, his ambition to portray the private lives of everyday Norwegians, and his goal to illustrate the moral development — or, on the contrary, the degeneration — of his characters. A crucial plot-forming device, the motif of murder is frequently combined with the motif of insanity as retaliation for the committed crime. It is possible to see how a critical view of modernity gradually replaces the distinct religious pathos of Hansen’s early prose (Den gale Christian (The Mad Christian), Keadan, eller Klosterruinen (Keadan, or the Abbey Ruins), Novellen (The Short Story), Den myrdede brudgom (The Murdered Groom)), inevitably leading to the emergence of a new kind of hero. The nature of this hero is determined by the surroundings and environment, the narrative becomes more psychologizing, and the interest in daily life takes the place of the theme of the moral revival (Jutulskoppen (The Troll Mountain) and Mordet på Maskinbygger Roolfsen (The Murder of Engine Maker Roolfsen)). Hansen’s writings from this time period are distinguished by a tragic perspective. The notion of a moral revival of man loses its appeal to the author. He feels that profit and vanity have replaced love, and that true feelings are doomed to vanish. The themes of mistrust between close people, the corruption of the ruling class, the oppressed position of the people, and the inability to escape from social oppression take on a new significance. We discover that Hansen’s interest in the everyday and private lives of regular people is linked to his search for artistic research tools, whereas the motifs of murder and crime investigation aid the writer in creating a vivid and accurate picture of contemporary Norwegian society while also making his narratives more entertaining

This article presents a classification of those artistic devices that the Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard uses in his work The Sickness unto Death. We will talk about such figures of speech as metaphor and simile. This classification arose as a result of the translation and analysis of the treatise since its careful study showed that these stylistic devices are not single and random means of expression designed to decorate or diversify the text, but an integral part of Kierkegaard’s philosophical thinking, which is characterized by figurativeness and concreteness. Kierkegaard blames modern philosophers for abstract thinking divorced from reality, and to present his ideas he chooses a figurative language replete with concrete comparisons since he sees it as his task to consider the real problems of human life. This classification is based on the division of artistic devices not according to their type, but according to their semantics. Each group of devices is a “semantic field” from which Kierkegaard drew metaphors and comparisons for a more precise and at the same time more figurative description of his views. The article considers the nine most common semantic fields, while in The Sickness unto Death, there are more than twenty of them. Since metaphors and comparisons are an integral part of Kierkegaard’s text, a careful study of them is very important both for philosophers who want to penetrate deeper into the concept of the Danish thinker, and for translators who seek to convey the author’s original text as accurately as possible. Стремительный рост популярности сетевой коммуникации, участники которой все чаще передают свои чувства и эмоции при помощи минимального количества знаков, существенно повысил роль и статус междометий в современном языке. В основу настоящего исследования лег перевод на русский язык комикса фламандского автора Брехта Эвенса Het Amusement (на русском языке — «Полуночники», перевод принадлежит Е. Торицыной). В комиксе употребление междометий, наряду с графическими приемами, играет чрезвычайно важную роль. При передаче междометий переводчик опирается в первую очередь на контекст употребления. Переводческое решение в данном случае связано с поиском соответствия, которое позволит сохранить семантическую, стилистическую и функционально-коммуникативную информацию, содержащуюся в оригинале. Язык исследуемого комикса демонстрирует черты южного варианта разговорного нидерландского языка (tussentaal, «промежуточный язык»), прежде всего на уровне междометий, которые в южном варианте отличаются от «северных». Результаты исследования заключаются в систематизированном описании способов передачи нидерландских — как «южных», так и «северных» — междометий на русский язык, при этом немалая роль отводится функционально-семантической характеристике данных лексических единиц. Особого внимания при изучении проблемы перевода междометий заслуживают как первообразные, так и непервообразные междометия, что обусловлено несовпадением в ряде случаев внутренней формы непервообразного междометия оригинала с внутренней формой междометия, выбранного переводчиком. Интерес представляет также прием опущения междометия, когда имеет место перераспределение экспрессивных оттенков исходного междометия между элементами высказывания в тексте перевода. Дальнейшее изучение и описание семантики междометий нидерландоязычного ареала представляет, на наш взгляд, существенный интерес для нидерландистики ввиду растущей частотности употребления междометий как в устной, так и в письменной речи

The importance of a new translation of Karen Blixen’s The African Farm is based on two factors: the book has never been translated from Danish (although the Danish version differs from the English version), and existing translations of the English version contain a number of inaccuracies. Karen Blixen’s book The African Farm was published in English in the UK in 1937 under the title Out of Africa. In the same year, Karen Blixen published the Danish text of the book under the title Den afrikanske farm. This book is not the only example of Karen Blixen’s own translations from English into Danish, as she also translated some of her short stories after their first publication in English. It is still a controversial issue whether her translations may be considered “copies” of the original works or they should be regarded as recreations in Danish. This article presents a comparative analysis of the English and the Danish texts of The African Farm which confirms that we are talking about two different versions of the work, since while creating the Danish text, Karen Blixen used several transformations: transpositions, substitutions, additions and omissions. The notion of “transformation” in this article implies a very wide range of modifications. The author makes significant changes to the original text. The result is a new text with quite a number of differences from English; the text that awaits translation from Danish. Out of Africa has been translated from English into Russian twice. The translations by experienced translators make a significant contribution to the history of literary contacts between Denmark and Russia; however, they contain a number of errors due to misunderstanding of Danish and African realities, as well as disregard for the specific situation. Translation of the Danish version of The African Farm is necessary not only because the Danish version has never been translated into Russian, but also because it would allow for the explication of some themes important for Karen Blixen that were “lost” in the translations from English. The present study does not presuppose consideration of literary aspects. It involves only differences between the Danish and the English versions of the novel, as well as the analysis of existing translations from English

В статье впервые дается обзор существующих исследований на тему опосредованного перевода в паре нидерландский — русский. Приведены как теоретические обоснования изучения данной проблемы (Х. Пиета, М. Рингмар, К. Доллерап и др.), так и результаты эмпирических исследований (И. Е. Кузнецова, Х. ван дер Так, И. М. Михайлова и др.) В работу включены наблюдения о влиянии языка-посредника на создание первых словарей, перевод научных трудов, юридических документов и художественной литературы, отдельно освещается вопрос использования английского в качестве «стержневого языка» в популярных онлайн-переводчиках. Основной проблемой в этом случае становится перевод личных местоимений и омонимов. В последние годы исследователи, с одной стороны, борются со стигматизацией опосредованного перевода как априори менее качественного и доказывают, что языки-посредники связывают между собой отдаленные культуры и играют важную роль в распространении литературы. С другой стороны, текстовый анализ различных видов непрямых переводов выявляет те ошибки и неточности, которых можно было бы легко избежать при прямом переводе. Опосредованный перевод при этом можно рассматривать как перевод, осуществленный с помощью языка, отличного от языка исходного текста, но не обязательно с «третьего языка»: при возникновении переводной множественности мы часто можем говорить и внутриязыковом опосредованном переводе. В качестве иллюстрации в работе используется роман Мультатули «Макс Хавелар», в частности русское издание 1959 г., где посредниками выступают немецкие и русские переводы. Прибегая к помощи предшественников, русские переводчики пропускают одни и те же фрагменты, используют схожий парафраз, повторяют лексические и фонетические искажения. Использование текстов-посредников, безусловно, связано с внеязыковыми факторами: отсутствием переводчиков, востребованностью текстов, желанием издательств снизить расходы или ускорить процесс перевода. Изучение конкретных случаев опосредованного перевода и дальнейшая систематизация выявленных искажений позволяют отслеживать негативные тенденции, а роман «Макс Хавелар» и его переводы на различные язык могут послужить материалом для выявления этих закономерностей

In deze bijdrage geef ik allereerst een uitgebreide schets van de censuur in de DDR. Ik ga uit van een interview uit 2019 met de Duitse schrijver en uitgever Gerhard Wolf. Hij probeert een verklaring te vinden voor de acceptatie in de DDR van de censuur die de nieuwe staat in zijn jeugd invoerde. Daarbij maak ik gebruik van een algemene definitie van censuur die is opgesteld door Christine Haug, ga vervolgens in op de beginjaren van die censuur en maak vervolgens het essentiële verschil duidelijk tussen censuur in de DDR en die in andere communistische landen in Oost-Europa. De censuur in de DDR werd mede gedragen door auteurs die waren teruggekeerd uit ballingschap, zoals Arnold Zweig. Ook citeer ik de waarschuwing van Bertolt Brecht in zijn toneelstuk Der aufhaltsame Aufstieg des Arturo Ui (1941) tegen het broeiende en nog levendige nationaalsocialistische gedachtegoed. Vervolgens beschrijf ik de HV, de afdeling op het ministerie van Cultuur die zich daar vanaf 1963 met censuur bezighield. Ze was niet alleen verantwoordelijk voor de bibliotheken en de gehele literaire productie van de DDR, zoals de verkoop, de import en export, inclusief de import van literatuur uit de Sovjet-Unie maar ook voor de uitwisseling van literatuur tussen de DDR en de BRD. Daarna ga ik in op de inhoud van de leesrapporten: de structuur, de specifieke vragen en de auteurs. Ten slotte beschrijf ik de roman Wolfsgetij van de Nederlandse auteur Theun de Vries en laat zien dat er bij deze uitgave sprake is van twee vormen van censuur

The article investigates a case of color usage in Revelation 6:8 and various ways it has been translated into Danish. The Greek χλωρός used to describe the horse under the fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse is polysemic and thus rather difficult to interpret, which resulted in numerous variations among translators. The image of Death on a pale horse has become part of the Western cultural heritage, although linguists have argued if this equivalent is indeed accurate in terms of color meaning comprised within the original lexeme. Fourteen translations, from medieval to modern, allowed to scrutinize some particular features of rendering this intricate color term in Danish, rising the main question of the study: why do so many Danish translations opt for the chromatic meaning of yellow in the given passage? In order to answer that, firstly, all of the translations were examined from the point of view of the time they were made, the primary source that the works were based upon and the special characteristics of chosen equivalents of χλωρός. Secondly, a few external sources were introduced in order to put the issue in a broader linguacultural context, such as the language, color symbolism and early Danish church art. This approach has helped to determine possible reasons for Death’s horse turning yellow, like the influence of German, deadly connotations of the Danish color term gul ‘yellow’ when referring to paleness and the bad symbolic reputation of color yellow itself.

As has been noted in grammaticalization literature, partitives, i. e. nominals encoding parts, portions, and sets, tend to evolve into vague quantifiers, and then into degree adverbs. However, while this grammaticalization path has already received a fair amount of scholarly attention in English, the extension of such items beyond the nominal domain in Swedish remains an empirically unexplored territory. Thus, based on random samples of attestations extracted from selected Språkbanken corpora, this paper offers a synchronic glimpse into the syntactic expansion of nine Swedish nominal quantifiers, namely droppe ‘drop’, nypa ‘pinch’, smula ‘crumb’, hop ‘heap’, hopar ‘heaps’, hög ‘pile’, högar ‘piles’, massa ‘mass’, and massor ‘masses’. The Swedish results largely coincide with those obtained for English, and demonstrate that in the verbal domain, most of the scrutinized elements reveal a preference for pronominal uses, in which they function as an argument of the verb rather than a genuine degree adverb, but which nonetheless give rise to secondary scalar inferences, whereas in the adjectival domain, a majority of the items exhibit a propensity to combine with the comparative forms of adjectives/adverbs. Both of these environments may therefore be assumed to constitute bridging contexts in the emergence of full-blown degree modifier uses of grammaticalized partitives. It is further shown that there exists a strong positive correlation between the items’ respective degrees of grammaticalization in the quantifier function and their extents of adverbialization, which testifies to the importance of frequency of use in the scrutinized instance of grammaticalization
